Take action

One email from a group is easy to file. Twenty emails from residents in a councillor’s own division are not. Here’s how to make yours count.

Write to your councillor

Ipswich has four divisions with two councillors each, plus the mayor. Find your division with council’s divisional boundaries map, then find your councillors’ contact details on the mayor and councillors page.

What to say. Keep it short, personal and specific.

  1. Who you are and where you live (your division matters).
  2. The specific place and problem, in one or two sentences. Link to the issue page if we have one.
  3. Why it matters to you: the school run, getting to the station, your kids, a crash or near miss.
  4. What you want done. Be concrete: “a kerb ramp on the north side”, “a 40 km/h limit”, “bring forward Stage 2”.
  5. Point to council’s own commitments. The Active Transport Action Plan is full of them.
  6. Ask for a reply, and tell us what they say.

Make a submission

Council runs consultations on Shape Your Ipswich and TMR on its own project pages. Deadlines are often only a few weeks. When one opens that matters for riders we’ll post the key points and the deadline in news and on Facebook. A short submission in your own words is worth far more than none.

Whose road is that?

Reporting to the wrong body wastes weeks.
