About Ipswich BUG
Ipswich Bicycle User Group (Ipswich BUG) is a volunteer group of people who ride bikes in and around Ipswich, Queensland. We want riding to be a safe, normal, everyday way to get around for everyone from eight to eighty, not just the confident few.
What we do
- Advocate. We make the case to Ipswich City Council, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, and our local state and federal members for safe, connected cycling routes. We respond to consultations, write submissions, and meet with planners and councillors.
- Keep a register of issues. Our issues register tracks hazards, missing links and projects across the LGA, so problems don’t get forgotten and wins get recorded.
- Share what we know. Routes, maps, safety info and how to deal with council. See resources.
Who we are
We’re an informal group right now, run by a small committee of volunteers.
Our priorities
- A connected network of separated bikeways into and through Ipswich Central, including a safe link to Top of Town.
- Safer speeds on local streets and at intersections where people walk and ride.
- Delivery of the cycling actions in council’s iGO transport plan and the state’s Principal Cycle Network Plan, on time and to a good standard.
- Good maintenance of the paths we already have.
